Subject: [ferrethealth] Help!! my ferret is screaming and foaming at the mouth!!
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
My mom noticed that my ferret was laying on the floor of the cage and barely breathing had foam coming out of his mouth and cant walk or hold his head up.. I know that they can have a heat stroke and that they go down easy and get sick fast. It could not have been a heat stroke because it was not hot enough... he has been very healthy and playful, and it scared me to see him like this.
a little about my ferret:
we got him from a family member who got him from a friend. this family member had two ferrets at the time, a boy and a girl. One of them kept picking on him.. so my family member gave him to me. My family member put the other ferrets outside and neglected them.. so the boy died of heat stroke. He gave me the girl because they could not take care of her. We put them in the cage and they get along for the most part.. she has her moments of being mean.
Harley my male ferret is about 1 now i believe. and he has always been the playful move around ferret. We are worried because now he screams and barely moves and has foam coming out of his mouth barely eats or drinks.
please try and help the best you can.
we dont have the money for a vet cuz my mom just had a baby
and i need like anything that maybe will help.
the vet said that maybe he is diabetic if so how do i deal with a diabetic ferret??
and also can you please give me some natural sugars i can give my two ferrets?? they eat cat food and drink a lot of water.
i believe that he may have Insulinoma.. if so what are somethings i can do to help my ferret??
Thanks so much guys,
Becca
