Subject: [ferrethealth] mid-spine chordoma?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Oliver has a bone growth/tumor just below the ribs, about the size of my thumb joint. Vet says it is a chordoma and that in any case there is nothing to do. I understand that removal of part of the spine would be impossible, of course, but is there anything that will slow the growth? Or something? I don't think he's in pain yet, but there may be occasional discomfort. Will this get painful? Is there anything to do about that? Is there something better (or worse) than chordoma that this could be instead? How would we know? (The vet did not do an x-ray or aspirate; just diagnosed chordoma by feel.)

It's sort of hard to tell about his level of comfort: Oliver has lost a little weight, but he's always had a nervous stomache--if I moved his cage or brought in a new ferret, he'd be likely to stop eating or get the runs. He sure loves his soup. And he's always been prone to occasional biting, so the fact that he still does that doesn't really tell me anything. He does run around with the others.
