I have been using psyllium husk (plantago ovata) for this purpose.
It is a water soluble non digestible fibre.
I buy this from in powder form from health food store in 500 mg capsules. I use 1 capsule a day between two ferrets, just snip of the end of a capsule and sprinkle over the food. Ensure that they have sufficient water when using this.
I have no idea what the maximum dose would be.
