Were you asking if I was aware of how specialized the testing needs to be? I would have been happy to answer that question. My Shelter is in Michigan and we have sent samples to MSU several times. MSU is not the only place to have the specific testing for FIP done. Our pathologist developed the same immunohistochemistry test used at MSU and thus the testing is now available at Texas A&M. There is no confusion of one thing looking like another; pathology confirmed FIP - as suspected at necropsy. As I mentioned our pathologist will be presenting her findings at an upcoming conference. And since our pathologist worked for Drs. Kiupel and Maes at MSU, she would have certainly sent samples there if necessary.

The purpose of my post was to let folks know that we had a case of FIP in a ferret that was not under 18 months old and that we cannot find any link to other illness in our Shelter at the time, even 4 months out from when Pam first got sick.
