Subject: [ferrethealth] Ferret with lesion on heel of left foot
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
I'm wondering until I get him in to the vet on Monday what Ferris (male 5 yrs old) has on the outside of the heel on his left rear foot. I first noticed it Friday. I took a couple of pictures and posted them in the photos section under Ferris.

I'm debating whether this is a mast cell tumor or a reaction to a bite. When palpated it feels 1-2mm thick and movable as though it's part of the skin surface and not attached to anything beneath. My concern is that if its a mast cell tumor, how difficult if it's removed is it going to be to suture the tissue? Feet don't have much stretchy skin. Any thoughts on the prognosis and how difficult its going to be to suture after removal? It had a bloody area today - looked like the surface had been scratched - maybe while he and another ferret chased Fizzgig (new female spunky ferret with lots of teeth).I usually see mast cell tumors on the body, this is the first time (if it is one) I've seen on a foot.
