Hi Maria,

A spay is a surgical procedure and therefore, following post-surgical protocol/care is recommended.

Sukie gives an excellent overview at:

In terms of your other questions:

Should I feed her anything special prior to or after the surgery?

- Carnivore Care (Oxbow) and/or Hills Prescription A/D for post-surgery. Both highly nutritious and readily absorbed.

Should I give her a bath before we take her in?

- No

Is there any restriction to food and water??

- No food 4 hours before surgery. No restriction on water. However, you may find regional variations on these recommendations. Certainly not necessary to fast more than 6 hours in advance of surgery.

Anything special with her cage?

-Remove ramps/levels. Should be completely flat surface.

Any bedding to avoid?

- no hammocks. Essentially avoid anything she needs to climb up into.

And is it ok to use wood pellets in Lucy's litter box?

- remove litter box and lay down puppy pads/papers for her to use.

Good luck with the surgery!

Tressie
