[Post 1]
I picked up a ferret from the shelter today who was covered in urine burns
(that's what I am thinking). All of outer skin the toes on his paws seem to be
missing or eaten away. It almost looks as if they were cut with razorblades, one
outer ring and the end of the toe is missing (the bottom section) but you can
tell it was dissolved or something. I am thinking it's urine burns. I will
search for treatments on the FHL but I was wondering if anyone has dealt with
this before. His abdomen is "burned" too. I have antibiotics and have been
giving amoxi and Carafate (not at the same time) for stress and the wounds, but
I was wondering what else I should be doing such as bathing, no bathing, etc.
Our ferret vet is on vacation and he was seen by the shelter veterinarians who
offered me no advice :/ They just said good luck and handed me the meds.
I searched and found someone used bag balm, I am not sure if I can find it
around here, but I will head to the pharmacy and see if I can get some.

[Post 2]
The ferret is very emaciated, and can't walk, and I can't tell if the skin is thickened due to the infection or if it's distemper - does anyone know if you get abcesses with distemper, and thickening of the skin on the abdomen, and "rings" on toepads? There is no crusting of the toes or pads.
I am trying to tell the difference - I have several other fuzzies here. If it does have distemper, it's too late, and it's probably already spread to everyone here.
The ferret does smell of infection but that's to be expected, he does have small abcesses.
The ferrets vets here haven't ever seen it and the shelter vet was no help. They didn't even suggest distemper but now I am kind of worried.
The ferret is showing no signs of weepiness from eyes, or any sort of problems with his face except for two yellow dots, one on his chin and one on his whisker pad. Now I'm freaked out. There is no crusting on his face or eyes. He is eating a lot and drinking a lot.
I guess I'll be heading to a "real" ferret vet in the morning. Why didn't I think about this sooner? I just assumed it was burns.
