Subject: [ferrethealth] Scent Gland

We adopted one of our sweetest girls from the Ohio rescue that was
closed down several years ago. We had her spayed but left the scent
gland intact. She has always been great and only used it if she was having a bad dream or was scared by another ferret (this only rarely).
For the last few days Abby has been expelling on a regular basis,
2-4 x day;sometimes when holding her or even if she is snuggling with her sisters. When my wife palpated Abby's perianal area she felt a swelling. She seemed to remember something about having to manually express this gland when it was swollen.
Does anyone have an idea of "what may be going here" ?
