Tressie,
I had a ferret with heart problems, she was treated with medications and did well for a while. I had looked up pacemakers for ferrets by searching on NCBI - Pubmed and found one published reference to an implanted pacemaker. The ferret's live was prolonged for four months. If you want to read the abstract, you can use NCBI and search PubMed (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed)and do a search by typing in "ferret pacemaker" in the PubMed search. It makes for somewhat depressing reading. However maybe there have been further attempts. My veterinarian says that one negative factor is the size of the devices (not small enough). The following is the title and authors.

[Moderator's Note:
There were at least 2 more before the newer and smaller pacemakers:
one by Debbie Kemmerer Cottrell
http://weah4.tripod.com/id2.html
and I THINK the other one may have been done in the
Animal Medical Center in NYC
The only thing I know about there being newer ones that are smaller
is that someone wrote me about them perhaps a year or two ago.]
