Hi Angela,

I can't give you long-term results, but I can share some very good
news about shorter-term use. I recently had deslorelin (Suprelorin)
implants put in my two hobs, and I could not be happier with the
results so far. Prior to the implants, I was using Lupron to control
their hormones. Lupron worked, but it was less than ideal. The four
month depot only lasted about two months. The one month depot worked,
but there was a significant amount of "up and down" with it because of
the short duration.

My vet was able to work with a contact at the FDA and with the Peptech
company to successfully import the implants into the US; you're in the
UK so you luckily get to skip this step. :)

We put the implants in the boys when they were on the way to coming
back into rut while on Lupron. One hob is about two years old and the
other one is a bit older (maybe 3 or 4, age unknown for him). The
older hob showed immediate effect: his nads started to shrink within
just a day or two of the implant. With the younger hob, it took a
week or two to begin to see the results. The implants went in on June
18 of this year, and they are *completely* out of rut currently.
Their nads are pea-sized or smaller. There is zero sliming and no
aggression between the boys. I don't know how long the implants will
last.

With the Lupron, in the less-good times between full effects, their
balls would get pretty large, and they would begin to do a little
marking. Nowhere near as bad as a hob in full-blown rut, but not
great. Behavior-wise, it never got bad enough that I needed to
separate the boys, but when they were teetering on the edge of
moderate rut, their wrestling would escalate to the point that they'd
draw blood on the scruffs. Then I'd find them cuddled up sleeping
together later. They were very conflicted.

I also had Deslorelin implants put in my two girls. They were spayed
at about 18 months of age, and I'm hoping to stave off adrenal disease
with the implants in them.

The mystery right now is just how long the implants will last... at
least with the hobs, there are obvious signs of when they're wearing
out. :)

Good luck!

-Pam.
