To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
LIke Caity we have usually had wonderful
results with surgery for adrenal disease,
but like Karen we have had some others
who thrived best with Lupron and melatonin.
In the best of all possible worlds a person can
go with whatever treatment is optimal for the
given individual.
Few of us live in the best of all possible worlds,
for even a short time in our lives and even with
careful savings there are times when costs do
come into the choices.
Your choices are NOT between surgery or
nothing because as you will have seen from
previously given links both Lupron, and to a
lesser extent also Melatonin DO help ferrets
with adrenal growths. They CAN be given together
and if you find vets who prep their own Lupron
DEPOT then the cost is not really bad (but the
same can not be said for individually ordered
doses).
If you can't do what is optimal for this ferret at
least the ferret has an option which will help
with both quality and quantity of life, and perhaps
do so extremely well, depending on the ferret
and the type of growth present.
Given your situation it may be best to state your
general location in case anyone knows of a vet
in that area who preps his or her own Lupron.
