Sorry for being such a nuisance but I have another query.
In the letter by Dr Heller (
_http://www.ferret.http://wwhttp://wwhttp://www.fhttp_ (http://www.ferret.org/news/07-april-titer_study.html) ) I read
about 'gastrointestinal shock' - Is this the same as anaphylactic shock?
**Boy, it's been long enough since I wrote that letter that I had to ge
read it to see what exactly I'd said...
What we often see in ferrets is not the classic anaphylactic reaction,
which involves respiratory collapse, swelling of the throat etc, which is what
people who are allergic to nuts and shellfish, for example, will often do.
We can see that in ferrets, and the two that I have lost to vaccine reactions
did that type of reaction. But the more usual kind of reaction in ferrets
involves the gastrointestinal system, and so we get vomiting, diarrhea,
bloody diarrhea, and large amount of fluid loss because of that. Not quite the
same thing.**
