Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Insulinoma crisis – Ferret vet on holiday
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Thank you so much to everyone who has replied. Unfortunately I'm rushing this morning to get our 40+ animals done before work. Also, I can't see these groups on the work PC, so I can only check again tonight. I can confirm that we are using prednisolone, but I don't know about the percentage of the active ingredient. I've never come across this before.

[Moderator's Note: Prednisolone itself IS the active ingredient and since it is solid rather than liquid the mg level you gave will be the amount of the medication itself. So, you can relax on that score. When people give liquid meds they need to also consider the concentration.]

Tippex looked good last night, but is now refusing to eat his meat as I think he got a taste for the high calorie food containing sugar (the one we used to keep him going over the weekend). I think he's eating the ferret biscuits available in the ferret room, but if he doesn't eat his meat again this morning we'll put him in the show cage overnight to monitor his eating.

[Just be sure that he always has food handy and easy to reach. --Mod]

Giving tablets every 8 hours wouldn't be totally practical as we're at work for over 9 hours, but if things got worse then I'm sure we could manage somehow. I feel more confident that we can keep him going until our specialist gets back from holiday.
