Some pretty common causes include:

ECE

coccidia (and these come in 3 genera
that ferrets get, so vets and labs must
look for the small ones, too)

secondary to an infection like influenza

secondary to insulinoma

Less often there are a range of things from other
infections like giardia, to lymphoma and more
from and if the actual cause can not be found then
the ferrets tend to get lumped into the "inflammatory
bowel disease" (IBD) category.

You don't give a lot of details. Could you write a more
through description, please. Things that help are knowing
the age of the ferret, the nature of the diarrhea (color, odor,
etc.), if the ferret is dehydrated, if the spleen is up, if the nodes
are up, and other details which may be relevant.

Also, these may prove useful for you and your veterinarian who may
well appreciate the links and print-outs. For the most part they are
refs from ferret veterinary experts.

(and with coccidia run a fecal each day for about a week if it is
not found right away)
