Also, has this been consistent or is it on and off?

If it is on and off then a food intolerance has to be
among the things considered. An intolerance or an
allergy can be to about anything but chicken (sometimes
all poultry) has often been found to be a contributor,
and some have mentioned trouble with certain grains,
especially corn/maize.

We have one who is fine if we can keep him from finding
tidbits of human food. His GI tract rapidly goes into
over-gear if he gets forbidden foods that he loves such
as oat based cereals, but if we can keep him on his ferret
foods his stools are fine. Unfortunately, he is major
garbage belly who combs the floors for anything missed.

So, what you are feeding may also play a part.
