I'm with you on this one, Deb! I don't have a degree in medicine however have learned alot from trial and error over the past 12 years of being owned by ferrets. Probiotics have been incredibly beneficial for my 2 adrenals - and out of my 6 (ranging in age from 1 - 6) - NONE have IBD. In my experience, I have also found that homeopathic treatment, although it may take longer, can often be more effective and less counter productive than harsh allopathic meds.
I truly believe that, after trying it the allopathic/kibble route for many years, ferrets do a lot better on natural care - diet and medicine. You're not alone, Deb!
