There is actually some study in other species
showing that at times certain GI infections
can have some positive effects for the immune
system as long as they don't get out of hand.
Wouldn't it be funny if when positive effects
are seen with probiotic use in ferrets it is that
sort of mechanism at work?
Bacterial symbiosis is far too understudied, I
am afraid.
