I've had one boy (6+ years old) with a back injury (ruptured discs) who also developed an enlarged spleen. The back was successfully treated with Dexamethasone. The spleen seemed to stay the same size for some time before suddenly becoming grossly enlarged, at which time the ferret began having difficulty using his hind legs and became very weak and lethargic. The spleen was removed in early March, biopsy showed no cancer. We do not know what caused the spleen enlargement but removing it was certainly the answer for my boy, he's doing wonderfully now.
