Dear friends
please be careful when having the spleen removed in ferrets. The spleen becomes enlarged in ferrets regularly, as it is one area that produces cells to fight infection and as such swells when producing these cells. It is often a good indicator that something is out of kilter. As long as it does not enlarge to the degree mentioned in the other posts here it will normally reduce once the infection etc is gone.
I have had several with enlarged spleens and all bar one have returned to normal size and the one in whom it didnt was terminally sick, not responding to a range of Antibiotics and Steroids etc. Wishing you well for diagnosis with your ferret and a good recovery. Michelle
