Subject: [ferrethealth] My ferrets
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hello, I had 2 ferrets. Both male. Tango & Cash. I have just moved into a new house and they seemed to be doing well and loving the extra space for the playpen and cage. I went to bed and woke up and Cash had passed away. He was in very good health. Didn't seem to be sick at all. Was still VERY active. I was told it may have been a spider bite. I live in West Virginia near the woods. I know that when a ferret loses a cagemate they can become withdrawn and it could lead to them not eating and passing as well. I have been trying to be VERY strong since I was told Tango can tell my emotions as well. My concern is this...In the passing of Cash the litter pan was knocked over and Tango laid in the mess all night. He now has very bad rash (slowly getting better from neosporin) and looks like he dug at the cage and his paw pads are now very raw. Since I woke up to this I have not let him out of my site. I even slept in a chair all night with him. He is eating and dr
inking and seeming to gain some energy back. The reason I post this is for any suggestions and ideas to help him thru this time or his loss as well as his belly being sore. I have made sure he doesnt lick the medicine off. Anything at all would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

[Amy, did Tango pass away recently enough for a necropsy
with pathology to be done (today?)?

It really sounds like Cash needs to get to a veterinarian who
also needs to know that Tango passed away of unknown causes.

Was the place very carefully cleaned with safe substances in places
the ferrets can get to in case anyone left anything toxic around?

Have you considered that Cash may be allergic to the litter?

Have these two had their full baby sets of CD vaccinations and then
follow-up boosters?

If you don't have a vet here are two lists of ferret vets:

A spider bite is actually not particularly likely:
