Subject: [ferrethealth] lump on neck
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I am hoping for some additional help for my ferret Rohan and his lumpy neck. He started with a lump under his jaw in May and I had started him on some amoxy before I could get into see my vet. He changed the meds to Clindaclure (clindamycin hydrochoride liquid - 20 mL (0.68 fl oz)) and we were giving one dropper full BID. We did that for a month with little help. He did an I & D in June and found pus, blood and a lot of chronic inflammation. He also did a teeth cleaning while Ro was under. My vet sent part of the lump out for biopsy and it came back as a pyogenic (sp?) granuloma. We kept Ro on the medicine for several weeks after his surgery.

I work for an ophthalmogist and my boss tells patients that after removing the contents of the cyst or bump that it takes a while to completely flatten out so I wasn't immediately concerned that it wasn't completely gone after the surgery.

The lump (about the size of pea) is still there but very small and not growing in size. My boss also suggested maybe a shot of a steroid directly into the lump on RO's neck might help the inflammation resolve. I check his bump regularly and today I noticed another small lump over his throat. I am starting the drops again. Evidently the drops help some but he hates them and I'm not convinced they are the right ATB to use. Or is there something else we could do to reduce this new bump like the steroid? Does anyone have any suggestions that I could take to my vet? Thank you!

Trish
