Subject: [ferrethealth] Ferret needs front leg amputation
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have a three year old male ferret (Scooner). On July 8, 2009 he had a massive (size of a kiwi) fibrosarcoma tumor removed from under his front left leg. The surgery went well, but now less than two months later his tumor has come back and is growing even faster and is larger than it was before. X-rays were done and it appears that the cancer is staying in the same spot and has not spread, so we're scheduled for a front leg amputation this Wednesday to completely remove the tumor.

Has anyone dealt with this type of tumor before? What are the chances that the tumor will grow back a second time even after the leg is removed?

Any advice or stories from anyone who has dealt with a recovery for a leg amputation with a ferret would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Ashley
