Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Ferret needs front leg amputation
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

While I don't have familiarity with this form
of tumor or with leg amputations, we have
had several ferrets over the years with other
forms of amputations (tail, finger, toe, portion
of a hand) both purposely done due to
unavoidable medical needs and accidently
done by novice mothers, and one thing we do
know about amputations in ferrets is that they
are prone to tissue retraction afterwards so it
is best for the treating vet to leave as large a
soft tissue pad as possible over the area to
avoid having to later do a further correction
due to exposed bone.
