Subject: [ferrethealth] Coughing Ferret

I have an elderly ferret (Oliver) and he has been having a raspy cough for a while. Also he is losing weight, but has a bloated belly.

There aren't any ferret vets in my area, and I don't know what to do for him.

Does anyone know what could be wrong with Oliver?

[This ferret needs a vet who is at least willing to
learn about ferrets and one of the first things the
vet will need to do is to image his chest. Lung
illness is possible, but things that ascites -- especially
cardiomyopathy -- are very likely with that group
of symptoms, and although it is not curable a ferret
often get a decent amount of added quality time with
appropriate treatment for that.

There is info in both the Files section and the
separate Archives to help you, and a veterinary
cardiologist may be consulted.
