Subject: [ferrethealth] deslorelin not meant for U.S. ferrets? and ear growth/polyup
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
I spoke with my vet today about trying the deslorelin shot for one of my adrenal boys. She said that ferrets in the U.S. have a different kind of adrenal disease which is genetic and that the European ferrets have a different kind of adrenal disease which is not genetic and that is why it is used on the European ferrets and not the U.S. ferrets. Has anyone heard of this? She said she would go through the paperwork if I was persistant to get it but thinks it would be a waste of money for me. Any comments or proof or this or other? Is this just experimental for U.S. ferrets?
Also has anyone ever had a ferret with a growth in the ear that bleeds and is not able to be reached with a laser to even see where the growth stems from? If so, how was it treated? My boy is being treated with Tresaderm for 14 days one drop in that ear to see if it calms it down. Any suggestions if this does not help?

[Deslorelin has been used with fine success in U.S.
ferrets in studies by Dr. Bob Wagner.
The reason is is not seen here normally is because
the FDA branches have been trying to figure out if
it is an approved drug since a different, non-implant
use is approved, or if the implant technology needs
its own approval.
Rumor has it that might be settled now, but I do NOT
know anything firm on that score, so check with its
manufacturer and the FDA.
For the ear see past post like

too.
