Ferrets vary GREATLY in whether they respond to diazoxide and how much
they respond to it.
This drug is also very expensive so it pays to do a trial run along
with Prednisolone to see if it even works for your ferret.
There is also an intermittent problem getting a hold of this drug
which is why people who need to get it worry about supply. The
easiest way to find it is usually through a compounding pharmacy.
Diazoxide as a generic is less expensive than Progylcem.
It makes me wonder what conference was this and who was saying these
things but name names could be inappropriate for the FHL. There
certainly have been times when hypotheses were presented as fact in
the past only to have the person retract or at least do some
backpedaling, and for all any of us know that may be happening again,
or (Who knows?)... I can think of one exotic vet who has backpedaled
on how bad ADV can be and how common it is, on diet, and on at least
two other things.
