Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Diazoxide for ferrets with insolinoma instead of pred????
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

On rereading this does not sound like a conference
but like people get together to discuss concepts and
studies each month, but that does not necessarily
mean that what comes up there has a hard foundation
nor even recent work.

There may be something newer but I did not find anything
in Pubmed more recent than 1996 on using diazoxide in
ferrets and nothing on that use when adrenal disease is
also present.

Could you ask that vet what studies led to the two statements
you recently made after speaking with the vet:
1. That European ferrets have a different cause of adrenal
disease than U.S. ferrets,
2. That diazoxide is the med of choice if a ferret with
insulinoma also has adrenal disease instead of Prednisolone
or instead of in combination with Prednisolone
?

I find NOTHING which supports either premise but there is
plenty which is against each premise.
