Much of the cost of compounding prescriptions is
also in the shipping so that needs to be worked into
comparisons when a person looks at that in relation
to local prices. For us the cheapest thing is to
use a somewhat local one even though we have a
bit of a ride to get to North Plainfield now that they
no longer have delivery service (the man retired) as
well as shipping options.

BTW, save the cooling packets in your freezer if you
have ones shipped that need to be shipped overnight
with cooling packets. They are very handy if someone
in the human family gets a muscle injury or if a lunch
needs to be kept cool.

A list of compounding pharmacies can be found
in the FHL Files section to see if there are ones
near you:

Some pharmacies do a limited amount of compounding
work but not the full range whereas compounding
pharmacies do it all.

Included in this post is info on what compounding
pharmacies do:

You might also want to ask how long the prescription
will keep if it is not used. Different types of flavoring
can affect how long it can keep. Why ask that? Because
if it does not help now maybe it will help later as the
insulinoma advances so using a flavor that does not
require the med to be tossed in a month can be helpful.

If you want the compounding pharmacy to also be PCAB
accredited:
http://www.pcab.info/
http://www.pcab.org/find-a-pharmacy.shtml
That is a recent form of accreditation so a number will
not yet have had time to pursue that.

Their reports are available right online. If a pharmacy
passes on all points then the inspections are every
3 years per the report on the one we use:
http://www.pcab.org/downloads/belvidere_accreditation.pdf
but I don't know what happens if one does not pass any of
the portions of the inspection nor how independent they are.
