Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Losing hair?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

-Hi,

My little ferret Poppy started losing her fur so we had her neutered but it did nothing to help she was also tested for Adrenal disease which was also a negative. Turns out it was a genetic disorder that we discovered too late she died 9 days later. The vet said there was no way they would have known in time as she displaying syptoms of other things more common. I was devastated as i was sure she was going to be ok i thought it was just anaemia, she had a problem with her bone marrow which was present at birth, she was the runt of the litter and the vet said it was amazing she had survived for 15 months so i suppose i had to be grateful for that.

(moderator's note: I am sorry for your loss. This sounds very vague but possibly referring to Autoimmune hemolytic anemia? or a form of aplastic anemia which is very hard to treat, as another form of anemia is seen in female's left in heat too long and some females with adrenal disease will also get anemic, and that may be why a spay was tried? I do not know how it correlates to the hair loss. But I will say that it seems like more was going on, and blood work was done to show the anemia problem. Also, a good reason why it is important for a vet exam and blood testing in the unusual cases)
