Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Questions for moderator (or anyone else) concerning Pred, Progly, and Insulinoma treatments
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have had Sabrina on both for over a year now. We did the surgery for nodules on the pancreas earlier with no success. So she will remain on the pred and diazoxide for the remainder of her life. Diazoxide is not always available, I get mine either at the vets office or from a local compounding pharmacy. It is around $123 a month for that, more expensive if I use the brand that is if you can get it. I took me several years to find a great ferret vet, but after having some adrenal issues with another ferret and getting stonewalled, I asked the local ferret shelter who they used. My current vet for the ferrets, is also a ferret owner, and has been working with the shelter for over 13 years now. She is always willing to talk to other vets who need advice on how to help with issues. The other drug that Sabrina takes is either gastricalm or carafate to prevent stomach ulcers from the prolonged pred use.
