Did the veterinarian do skin scrapings for mange? If the vet did, then the following wouldn't apply, but if the vet didn't,I have a suggestion that might be off the wall, but might be worth checking.
At first I thought your pictures showed something similar to what my ferret Babs has on her neck - a roughly round area orangy colored and scurfy. When she was taken in for a check up recently, my veterinarian said - "oh looks like remains of the mast cell tumor she had". I couldn't remember if that was where the mast cell tumor had been, but it seemed a reasonable suggestion since they do have that kind of orangy rough look to them sometimes.
I decided to type in "orange coloration of the skin in ferrets and cats' into google. I got a list of references and noticed one reference which took me to a book page 386 in fox's Biology and Diseases of the ferret. I have an older edition which does not have these pages. I think ferret, skin and color pulled up the reference since the color in this case mentioned is yellow. However the gist of the section was that two one year old ferrets had yellow discoloration and mild pruritis of the skin of one month's duration. the owner had treated both ferrets repeatedly for ear mites with topical triamcinolone in an effort to eradicate a previous ear mite infestation. The ferrets also had alopecia (hair loss) and seborrhea (type of dandruff/scurfy area)behind the ears, on the abdomen and in the inguinal area. Skin scrapings showed both adult and larval forms of demodex mites. they treated the animals with amtraz and I found the reference to an abstract on line which stated that it w
as thought to be the first report of demodicosis in ferrets.

Demodicosis in ferrets (Mustela putorius furo).
The Veterinary quarterly 1996;18(1):28-31.
If your ferret had skin scrapings done, then this might not be it, but if it didn't, might be worth a try.
