Subject: [ferrethealth] baby fat vs start of obesity
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have a very active 19 week old intact male ferret. His diet consists of a 50/50 mix of Evo kitten and k9 small bites available all day. He also eats a home made diet consisting of a cooked minced chicken, Wysong Archetype and whole eggs. I give him about 1/2 of a cup at each night with something raw such as chicken wing, livers or gizzards. He is weighing in at 1.7kg and is very large boned. I work at a veterinary hospital where one of the doctors is concerned with him being obese. this particular doctor only sees cats and dogs and his doctor has not voiced any concerns but seems quite impressed with his size in general.

My question is when do you worry about obesity and when can you reason it to "baby" fat? Human babies all "baby" fat and it is normally not an issue.
