Subject: [ferrethealth] Pasty's ear polyp, not good news
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Patsy, my ferret with a large ear polyp went back for a recheck after being on tresaderm for 14 days and I had him on pred (1/4 tab) once daily. The news is that the polyp has NOT shrunken in size and it is unreachable, inoperable because the ferret's ear canal is so small, no surgical instruments that she knows of can get down in there to do anything to get it out. My vet is lost at what to do and is going to call another vet for suggestions as he would either need some kind of micro surgery or total ear removal !!!!! The polyp is big and she believes it stems all the way done to the lowest level of his ear. I do not know if a ferret would be okay without an ear, what about their balance, would it be off? I really do not want something that drastic done unless he absolutely needs it. For now he is on tresaderm for another 2 weeks. I guess he has had an ear infection for some time, but we never caught it! We live in MA, does anyone know of a ferret vet than can do micr
o surgery?

Eleanor
