Subject: [ferrethealth] Re:Question for Breeders re: whole Hob testes
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
The AFA does not consider it a show fault (disqualification) until the
ferret is over a year and the testicle has not descended. Personally, I have
seen hobs drop their testicles any time up to 18 months. Best if they drop
early, yes. And I would not breed a hob with a retained testicle, and
would only breed his relatives cautiously. I do have one hob with a retained
testicle secondary to damage from his mother (overgrooming) when he was a
kit - not genetic, but most of them have a genetic basis.
Health issues - not really in a young hob, but as the hob ages it can be of
concern as there is increased possibility of testicular cancer in a
retained testicle.
