Subject: [ferrethealth] Congestive Heart Failure - fast breath
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Nahum now 7 years old was diagnosed on December 21 with :
- Mitral Regurgitation- moderate
- Congestive Heart Failure

Nahum had fluid build up in his chest. On the Xrays we were barely able to see his chest, because all was white, the same for his heart. The heart is abnormally so big.

With the echocardiogram the cardiologist was able to see the heart condition. Nahum has a leak from one of his heart valve (the mitral, on the left side of the heart)

Nahum condition has deteriorated in the space of 4 days. On the 15 December the vet for the Deslorelin implant heard an heart murmur, but Nahum chest was clear. Nahum was still in the mood to play with some energy. But on the 17th Nahum started to cough. First time I have heard a ferret coughing. It is very panicking, a very loud sound as a mad duck yelling. On the 19th he started to breathe very rapidly and shallow, and more coughing. In night he was uncomfortable, trying to place himself for to sleep, coughing more...

The 21 December was the appointment with the cardiologist.
They did an injection of a diuretic for to try to remove all the fluids from the chest.
The Dr has prescribe to Nahum :

- Furosomide : 0.2mg orally every 12 hours
- Vetmedin : 0.25mg every 12 hours
- Prillium : 0.1 ml every 24 hours (150mg)

The 24 December Nahum had a recheck appointment with Xrays and the cardiologist said that Nahum chest was in an amelioration of 50%.

I was so very happy. But...

Now Nahum will cough only occasionally (Yesterday he didn't cough at all for all the day and night) But this morning he coughed one time.

My concern is that is breath is still fast and shallow.
He will take a big breath sometimes, but will restart to breath rapidly just after.
It is not worse than the day Nahum has seen the cardiologist.

Nahum eats well, pee and poops not at their best, still just fine, but it was already like this, Nahum is adrenal, both glands are involved with an enlarged prostate. Nahum just had is second implant of Deslorelin.

Must I to be concerned and worried about this fast breath ?
Am I too over worried ?

Thank you for any input.
Marie-Agnes and Nahum
