One clarification to my last post in response to Karen:
I am not claiming for a minute that lupron isn't a good option. It is
the best option I've seen for older or compromised ferrets.
We actually did try lupron first with Chin Soon and it had no effect
at all. That, plus the fact that our vet felt insulinoma surgery was
urgent, made the choice of surgery the obvious one for a then five and
a half year old ferret. OTOH, Podo (probably nine an a half years old
at the time) responded brilliantly. Even if it hadn't he'd have never
survived a surgery with everything else that was wrong.
As Sukie made clear, there is no one right answer for all ferrets. I
just wanted to make clear that I am not dismissing Karen's successes
with lupron. It works very well for some ferrets.
Oh, and the usual disclaimer applies; I am not a vet, I don't even
play one on TV. I'm just a moderately experienced ferret owner who
has been fortunate enough to have excellent care available for my
little ones.
Regards,
Caity and the terrific trio
(Chin Soon, Ella and Zephyr)
