Lupron works well in young uncompromised ferrets as well. I've started ferrets on it at as young as one year of age and have seen it successfully treat adrenal disease for more than 3+ years (and counting). The only drawback, for some, when it comes to lupron is cost. I suppose my ferrets are lucky in that I do manage to afford it. I've the feeling if costs were improved more would be open to going the lupron route as well.
