Your subject line states 'metastatic liver cancer' - the report you have transcribed only states metastatic cancer under the liver category. Perhaps this was an oversight when typing over the report?? Pathology reports don't normally state 'cancer' but describe the cells or
If the full pathology report stated 'metastatic liver cancer' then the liver is the site of the primary tumor. That means that is where the cancer originates. The cells that are abnormal are the ones that have come from the primary site and have started growing elsewhere. For example, you can have metastatic liver cancer in the brain or bone, etc.
In other words - knowing it is metastatic, is knowing where it originates from.
Hope that clarifies what is meant by 'metastatic'.
