Actually I've had then drop anytime from 6 months to 1 year six months with no issues. My vet and other vets I've used say the abdominal retained testicles are the ones you want to get out before the ferret reaches 2 years of age. If it's down in the general area and just not down in the sack you shouldn't have any problem waiting to see if it will drop.
References - been breeding ferrets since 1990 - and kinda known as the 'gonad guru'.....I've been able to find them when most vets can't. I can show you my certificate..........
