Subject: [ferrethealth] Milk Thistle and Liver Disease
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have a 6 year old female who has had insulinoma for quite a while. She has been stable on prednisone. Several weeks ago she started having loose stool, which at first didn't alarm me because she has bouts of irritable bowel. It continued and progressed to diarrhea so I took her in for a check up. Her glucose level was low so her pred dose was increased and she was started on Flagyl and carafate. They gave her SQ fluids. Blood work results came back and 3 out of the 4 liver enzymes are extremely elevated. The doc has added clavimox. I requested that her prescription be changed from regular prednisone to prednisolone. Her stool has already improved but I'm very concerned about her liver and I was wondering if anyone has used milk thistle as a therapy for liver disease in ferrets?

Any other suggestions would be appreciated also.

Thanks!

Brenda
