Subject: Re: [ferrethealth] Prednisolone side effects? - Diarrhea
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi, Alicia,

Yes, prednisolone can cause diarrhea. We saw that with Nyssa and
Podo. There are also alternative medications which may work better
for Lucas. I've never dealt with a ferret with kidney failure so I'm
not going to even hazard a guess at what alternative would make sense
for him. It is worth discussing with your vet.

If there is no alternative to pred that works for Lucas there are
alternatives to Pepto which may work better. I spent a year in
Cincinnati and Lady Ayeka had lymphoma in her GI tract which caused
chronic diarrhea. The vet there gave her diarsanyl which worked
pretty well for her. A year later in Wisconsin we did the same for
Nyssa, replacing Kaopectate, and again, it worked rather well. I
blogged about it (and about what diarsanyl really is) here:
http://ferretsofdisorder.blogspot.com/2006_03_01_archive.html There
is probably also info in the FHL archives.

Good luck to you and to Lucas.

All the best,
Caity and the terrific trio
Ella, Zephyr and Chin Soon
