Subject: [ferrethealth] Causes of low blood glucose

Dr. Sue, or Anyone else:
Can you give a list of any of the possible causes other than insulinoma that you have seen to cause low blood glucose levels? We have 2 ferrets that just tested at 60 at the vet's, one of them being new to our home. The other had been on prednisolone, a relatively low dose, which brought his BG level up, but we then recently weaned him off of it slowly to see if it affected his BG level, and it did. His activity level dropped dramatically without the pred and he went back to mostly just laying and staring during his out-of-cage time. So, I want to put him back on the pred.
Also, you mention the furball. What might be the signs or symptoms of a furball blockage? We've fortunately never experienced one.

I have found other issues that ended up causing a lower blood glucose not just the insulinoma. We removed a fur ball from the stomach of a little girl Also removed the one or 2 insulinomas.
