Subject: [ferrethealth] Any tips for a ferret with an enlarged heart?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

My ferret is 2 1/2 years old. From Rainbow Exotics. He has been coughing for about 4 months and I kept bringing him to the vet in the past 2 months. I got an xray done yesterday and he has been diagnosed with an enlarged heart :( He is now on Lasix and Enacard. I'm starting to think that he was born with this problem because I now remember that a couple of months after i got him (he was 3 months old when i got him) he had that cough but it went away and now here he is 2 1/2 years old and that cough came back but very bad. I am a first time ferret owner and I have never experienced this before. Anyone that has gone through this, maybe you can help me. I mean is there anything that I can do for him that could help him more? Anything that I should not do? Also, will the medicine shrink his heart at all or just help it? I'm going back to the vet on Saturday, Jan. 23, to get him checked out to make sure the medicine is helping. The vet told me his heart is enlarged on both sides.
I am so worried about him, because I love him so so much and he is my baby, practically my child!! Thank you for any help that you can give me.
