Subject: [ferrethealth] Mouth Tumor & Reddened skin
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I am currently fostering a sweet male boy who has a large lump on the upper jaw, next to his canine. It does not seem to cause him any pain but the Vet said that an aspiration showed muti nucleated cells and it IS cancer. He also has very thinning hair (probably adrenal) but his skin is quite red or Pinkish in color and he has an unusual odor. It is not your usual ferrety smell. He is about 5 yrs old so he is a senior. My question is: Has anyone experienced these symptoms in a ferret and what can be done to improve his quality of life? I was hoping the growth in his mouth was not a tumor therefore he has been getting .2 cc of Clindamycin for the past 10 days. I have not seen a change in the size of the mass. He also gets a very health soup 2 times a day besides his regular kibble. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated :)

[Do you know what type of malignancy, Lynn?
That will affect what can be done.
If it is squamous cell carcinoma then this is a
jumping off point for learning more:

and FHL posters will have more info for you
