Subject: [ferrethealth] Help with pain management
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
He is very sick, but with the help of Bupronex 2x a day, Carafate, Pepcid and Nexium, we got him stabilized and he was doing very well, in fact, he seemed better than he has in a while, before we even knew he was sick!
Then we really stupidly let his pain med (Bupronex) run out and it took us a day to get it refilled (its a Class 3 medicine and after work we had to drive an hour to the ferret specialist to get it refilled). Since then, he has had 3 doses but we can't seem to get him to stop trembling as though he is in pain. We even gave him an extra dose today. He just keeps shivering and looks dazed. He started grinding his teeth again too (he did that before we got him all comfortable).
We have an appt with the vet this afternoon, for whatever he needs. I am still hoping there is some adjustment we can make to get him comfy again. He is alert and likes eating still (although he doesn't seem keen on his hard food since this happened).
Do you think it could be due to the pain medicine? That's what we are hoping, and it is not the tumors causing more damage. It seems like it would be too much of a coincidence. That was the only thing that changed, unless exactly around that time the tumors got bigger.
