I am so sorry you and your precious little one are going through this. I am assuming you have already been to the vet.

It does sound like he may have experienced breakthrough pain, which occurs with advanced cancer. The chronic pain is managed with medication, however, intense pain breaks through the medication managed pain. It is generally extreme and greatly distresses the patient adversely affecting quality of life. It generally requires a different kind of pain medication, one that is quick acting and short term to break the pain cycle.

Providing hospice care for our beloved fuzzbutts requires flexibility as the illness ebbs and flows. At some point, as you are aware its time to make the hard decision because quality of life vanishes.

I hope your vet got things back on track.
