I took my little girl to the vet today.=C2=A0 She behaved very well and the=
vet was able to aspirate the lump with no trouble (FerreTone is wonderful =
stuff).=C2=A0 Microscopic review showed normal red blood cells with a just =
a few white cells which the vet said indicated nothing more than irritation=
of the sight.=C2=A0 I asked specifically about the possibility of a tumor =
and the vet said nothing she saw under the microscope led her to believe a =
tumor was present.=C2=A0 She said to treat topically with a little Neospori=
n for now.=C2=A0 If the lump remains or becomes troublesome I can call back=
and schedule removal.=C2=A0 The vet didnt' tell me what that would involve=
.=C2=A0 Does this sound like an acceptable diagnosis?=C2=A0=C2=A0Should I b=
e more concerned than the vet seemed to be?=C2=A0 =C2=A0
[It may be a cyst that will need draining now or then,
or even just a blood blister from some sort of injury.
The types of tumors that ferrets get which look like that
on the outer ear are often not worrisome, either.=20
Unlike dogs mast cell tumors of the skin for ferrets
are virtually always benign, for example, but can be very
itchy.
So, keeping an eye on it for now while avoiding infection
is most likely a good course of action.
