Subject: [ferrethealth] need feedback ... prolapsed rectum
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
hi,
I have an albino female, approx. 4 years old, who is in great health and shows no signs of any disorder. This morning, as I picked her up to love on her, I noticed that she has a prolapsed rectum / hemorrhoid looking mass protruding from her anus. There is very little blood associated with the mass and only a speck of blood on her white coat. I have not found any bloody trails or accumulation where she sleeps. She has had a single bowel movement that I know of since I discovered this. The BM did not have any blood or other matter in the stool. I did not see her as she did it so I don't know if there was any discomfort or labored BM, though I was in the next room and did not hear her make any sounds of distress. My ferret doc, who is the only one in the area, is closed today so I would appreciate any feedback / course of action that I can take until I can get her in tomorrow ... would it be appropriate to apply preparation H? I've taken care of ferrets for 12 years a
nd have never seen this happen before ... safe to say that I'm a little more than freaked out about it.
Thanks
