Subject: Re: [ferrethealth] need feedback ... prolapsed rectum
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Sometimes a ferret prolampse is combined with anal glands problems.
You could comfort your ferret by putting some petroleum jelly on the prolap=
sed tissue and VERY gently massage the petroleum jelly on her problem aerea=
.
Sometimes a prolapse can be GENTLY pushed back in place. BUT DO BE VERY GEN=
TLE!.
If the prolapse is big, than there can be a problem on the passage of stool=
s.
You can t leave this problem to solve on his own, Do ask a vet if the injur=
y is there still the next day.
Sometimes when a prolapse is too big an operation to keep tissue in place i=
s needed.
As long as the ferret is able to do well on doing its thing( stools) that t=
ells you the passage can still be used, so then it s not a real BIG emergen=
cy.
Keep in mind the situation can change within a short time, so keep checking=
!!!! Every stool.
Every time the ferret goes potty.
=A0
We had the problem here some yrs ago and a month later a ferret of a friend=
o mine had it too.
I wish you good luck w the care of your poor ferret.
Do visit a vet asap. That s always the best thing to do.

[If a lot of tissue is involved, if the tissue is
badly discolored, etc. then an emergency call
to the vet's number is needed asking for call-
back so that the vet can assess if immediate
care is needed or if the ferret can wait till
tomorrow.
