Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Ferret not eating

Have 5 1/2 year old Minnie,last visit before preset illness was September
for corneal abrasion. She was fine,otherwise.
During late fall began getting thin hair on tail, started her on Melatonin
early December. Hair loss continued.This past Friday night I caught her
retching,she may have vomited,but went under a big cabinet,can't see anything.
Saturday afternoon she was acting OK,by saturday night when I let the
ferrets out again she didn't want her treats, some light cream and chicken cat
treats. I gave her some carafate,then fed her some ground ferret food mixed
with water and ferretvite.
Sunday I was giving her the mush every few hours and started her on
Clavamox.
We had appt for vet Monday, but couldn't get there due to heavy rain and
flooding.
Took her Tuesday.
Did stool check, stool is light brown,seedy,a little soft. Vet said it
should have both rod and round bacteria,but only has round,could be overgrowth?
Did xray, nothing showed abnormal
Did physical exam, nothing in mouth or teeth, no enlarged lymph nodes. He
felt a tumor,thought it was in abdomen not sure where.Intestines feel
thickened.
Did ultrasound, showed 9mm tumor on R adrenal and around Vena cava,feels it
may be adenocarcinoma, also 6mm tumor on l adrenal, .Did not see anything
in stomach,he thought it could be a foreign body,or hairball,but nothing
showed. Liver,heart,lungs and kidneys looked fine,spleen ok, you could see
food moving through the intestines.
Bloodwork will only mention abnormal ones
Albumin/globulin ratio low 0.9
ALT High 566
Triglycerides high 141
Hemoglobin high 19.0
WBC high13.5
RBC high 12.2
Platelet high 1326
I don't know if these are normal, no range given
Neutrophils 10395 77%
Bands 0
Monocytes 675 5%
Eosinophils 1080 8%
Basophils 135 1%
When the vet called me he said the tests were basically normal except for
the liver enzymes,he didn't even mention the other things.
Minnie is on Carafate, Pepcis, Amoxi, flagyl, vivify .sub q fluid and pred.
She still does not want to eat unless I feed her with dropper or put food
on my fingers or a spoon. I have not even seenher drink water.
She does not grind her teeth,paw at her mouth, she only makes a funny
almost clicking noise with her tongue on the roof of her mouth it sounds like
while aifeed her.
Any ideas on what I can do ,or what it could be? She had also gone down
from 2.4 ponds to 1.7 since September, .
